Springfield Township Preservation Committee
Springfield Township has the
unique distinction within Oakland County of being the headwaters of four major
river systems: the Huron, Clinton, Shiawassee, and Flint Rivers. These
watershed areas are comprised of high quality wetlands, unique prairie fens,
forested uplands, oak openings, and open spaces not yet compromised by
development. The Springfield Preservation Committee works in collaboration with
Township officials, local residents, businesses and environmentally sensitive
developers in order to facilitate the preservation of these special areas in
perpetuity. Protected PropertiesCurrently there are about 270 acres under protection by NOHLC within Springfield Township representing a diversity of ecosystems. Approximately another 180 acres is expected to come under protection in the near future. MeetingsMeetings are held periodically in order to discuss and take action on: designation of high quality properties especially within wildlife and riparian corridors, acquisition of potential properties available for preservation, stewardship issues related to existing properties, and programs that enhance the quality of life within the township such as those related to water quality and the use of native vegetation. Contact InformationContact NOHLC's office at 248-846-6547 or email admin@nohlc.org. Learn about your Preservation Options Window of Opportunity!
