Poem: The Peace of Wild Things - Wendell Berry

Holly Township Preservation Committee

Dedicated people preserving property for future generations

Our mission is to identify, Protect and preserve water quality and natural habitat in Oakland County’s Holly Township.  We are a volunteer organization of concerned citizens working in conjunction with the North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy.  We want to encourage communities to manage development and to educate the public about the importance of preserving natural areas.  We make information available to landowners to help them act as stewards of their natural area.

In Holly Township, The North Oakland Headwaters Land Conservancy owns:

3.2 acre Victoria Preserve

5.2 acres WaterWorks Wetland

Holly Lakeview Preserve (.25 acres)

There are three ways you can help preserve areas within Oakland County:  A conservation easement, a land donation, and/or a monetary donation:

  1. A conservation easement is a legal agreement with a landowner that limits the type and amount of development that may take place on the property.  Each easement is individually tailored to prevent over-development of fragile resources and preserve ecological integrity.  Landowners retain all other ownership rights and may qualify for tax benefits.

  2.  An outright donation of land to a conservancy should be considered for landowners who do not wish to pass the land on to heirs, own property they no longer use, own highly appreciated property or are not longer interested in managing and caring for their land.  Landowners may qualify for substantial income tax deductions and estate tax benefits.

  3.  Monetary Donation:  This tax-exempt preservation group accepts funds to purchase new lands, conservation easements, development rights, and maintain properties under protection.
